Use the Shopify inbound connector to bring customer, product, and event data from Shopify into ZMP so you can build audiences, suppress purchasers, and personalize content.
The connector streams:
-
People — Shopify customer profiles
-
Products — product records stored as Resources
-
Events — order and commerce events, available as a source in Data Flows
In Data Flows, you can optionally clean, map, or transform that data before it is ingested into ZMP.
For real-time storefront and checkout behavior, add a custom pixel in Shopify Customer events. That path is separate from the Connections setup below.
This article covers bringing Shopify data into ZMP. To create or update Shopify customers from a campaign, use Channel Manager. See the Shopify outbound workflow.
Prerequisites
-
Create a Shopify access token to provide in ZMP. The inbound connector needs read permissions only. Create the token with only the access required.
-
Confirm that the added data volume is within your account limits. Shopify event volume is typically much lower than site traffic sent through personalization tags.

After you’ve created a Shopify Connection, you can
Ingest data with Data Flows
After the connection is saved, create a Data Flow that uses Shopify as the source. Data Flows can ingest:
-
People (profiles)
-
Products (Resources)
-
Events
Use Data Flows when you need to map fields or apply additional logic before the data lands in ZMP. For the general workflow, see Data Flows.
Test the connection
After the connection is established, update a customer profile or a product in Shopify and confirm that the change streams into ZMP.
Set up real-time streaming (custom pixel)
Use a custom pixel when you need real-time storefront and checkout events in addition to (or instead of) the Data Flows path.
1. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Customer events.
2. Click Custom pixels. Paste in the Zeta pixel code provided by your account team.
3. Custom pixels that are not currently connected appear under Disconnected pixels. Click Connect on the pixel you added.
4. After you confirm that the pixel satisfies Shopify's Terms of Service, click Connect.
Build audiences
Customer profile properties and product metadata can both be used to target or suppress audiences in ZMP.
Example: build a suppression segment for users in California who purchased an item with season = winter in the last 30 days.
Personalize content
Product metadata stored as Resources can be used to personalize emails. Reference a Resource by ID, filter on metadata, or use Zeta Recommendations. See Zeta Markup Language (ZML).
